I recently had an opportunity to use an old camera of a friend of mine. The camera is a relic from 1985 a Konica Minolta X – 7A. When the most advanced feature on it was auto exposure lock “AEL”, coupled with a completely manual 50mm lens w/ 1.7 aperture which was superb for its erra. I took a few pictures of my daughter Elliana and immediately she wanted to see them. She was so accustomed to the new modern technology of the backlit display where instant gratification consumes us in our every day life. She was dismayed that she could not see the images, but was quickly over it. Oh the things we take for granted. As for the camera. It’s awesome. Surprisingly with the drive booster attached to the bottom it can do a whopping three and a half pictures a second. That’s amazing for a camera of that age. The lens adjustment were in 1/2 stop increments and the shutter speed was an archaic auto setting or manual in one stop increments.
Now thats primitive. Definitely not like the new tech which is all in 1/3 stop increments or 1/2 stops. I know your blown away right now, so I’ll just let sink in for a bit. If you don’t understand the all the nerd numbers it’s ok. That’s my job.
Using older tech got me to thinking…. are you sure your pictures are taken with perfection in mind? Myself and a few other Pro photographers often ask yourself this on a subconscious level.
